Thumbitis is the red blistery affect that occurs on the underside of the thumb. The most common cause of thumbitis is too much text messaging with Blackberry and other mobile devices. Thumbitis has also been known to occur from too much PlayStation 3, Xbox, Wii or handheld video games. Cases date back to 1981 with the introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
